CALLING ALL EMERGING ARTISTS FOR THE OLD FOURTH WARD ARTS FESTIVAL

Calling all emerging artists! The Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces (AFFPS) and Binders Art Supplies & Frames are excited to announce the launch of the “Emerging Artists” program. Making its debut at the Old Fourth Ward Arts Festival on June 28 and 29, 2014, the program aims to support new artists and artisans that have never previously exhibited outside of the classroom or studio by providing the opportunity for them to participate in a juried outdoor art festival.

“AFFPS and Binders strongly support the arts and especially the development of new talent.  We recognize the challenges new artists face when developing a body of work and finding exhibition opportunities.  Participating in a juried outdoor art festival can be viewed as a ‘rite of passage’ among new artists who wish to introduce their work in an unbiased public setting,” explains Patrick Dennis, Executive Director of the AFFPS.

Artists eager to participate are encouraged to apply through the AFFPS by completing a one-page application and submitting photos of their artwork. A reduced rate opportunity for artists to participate in a juried outdoor art festival, AFFPS and Binders will provide basic display tools including the tented pavilion, tables and/or easels.  The application fee is $25, in addition to a booth fee of $75.  Participating artists will retain all proceeds from sales during the event. THIRD ANNUAL PEACHTREE HILLS FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS THIS WEEKEND

The Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces will celebrate the Third Annual Peachtree Hills Festival of the Arts this weekend on Saturday, May 31 and June 1 in Atlanta, Georgia. The two-day festival will bring 125 artists to the shady, tree-lined neighborhood along with live acoustic music, delicious local food and drinks, a new children’s area and much more.  The event is open to all ages and is free to attend; pets are welcome.

Held in and around the Peachtree Hills Park & Recreation Center, festival goers can are invited to enjoy live entertainment while they pursue the carefully selected line-up of fine artists and crafters.  This year’s featured performers include: Mary Kate Farmer, Nena Dubois, Caryn Womack, Brandon Gunter, Destitute Way, Madison Shea, Rachel Wiggins, Sarah Mootz, Laughlin, Sara Barbara, BJ Wilbanks.

DOWNTOWN’S NEW POP UP SHOPS OPEN FOR BUSINESS SATURDAY, JUNE 7

On Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 4 to 9 p.m., join Central Atlanta Progress for the grand opening celebration and pop up shop crawl to kickoff off the Downtown Pop Up Retail  Shops  Featuring 14 merchants taking over vacant storefronts along Atlanta’s Streetcar route in Downtown’s most walkable communities, Atlantans and visitors alike are invited to be the first to explore the pop ups while enjoying in-store giveaways, music, food, drinks and much more. CAP’s Downtown Pop Up Shops will be open to the public through August 2014.

Allowing temporary retailers to showcase their wares and generate revenue while promoting retail and shopping along the streetcar route, the highly anticipated pop up shops feature a diverse range of retailers and artists offering clothing, gifts, accessories, pet supplies, shoes, furniture and home accessories, local goods and more throughout the summer.  Receiving more than 100 applications to fill the empty storefronts, CAP coordinated free space for the selected retailers for three months with the option of signing a permanent lease at the end of the program.  CAP also provided chosen merchants with a $500 grant to kick-start their operations. LIDESTRI SPIRITS AWARDED NINE MEDALS AT THE ANNUAL WINE AND SPIRITS WHOLESALERS OF AMERICA CONVENTION & EXPOSITION

For the second year in a row, LiDestri Spirits’ ready-to-drink cocktails racked up numerous awards at the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Convention & Exposition (WSWA). The annual event, now in its 71st year, attracts wine and spirits distributors and importers from around the world who convene to find new products, develop new business, and hear about trends from leading experts.

LiDestri’s mü, a coffeehouse-inspired creamy ready-to-drink cocktail and last year’s winner of the prestigious “Hot. New. Now. Media Award”, scored big during the 2014 Wine Tasting Competition by earning a Double Gold for its Coco Cappuccino flavor, while Vanilla Latte and Espresso Macchiato flavors both landed Silver medals. The wildly popular LiDestri’s Pink Limoncello, a favorite for its classic citrus aroma and sweet, bright finish, won a Gold medal for the second year in a row while LiDestri’s White Sangria inked a Silver medal for the second year.

Debuting at this year’s event was LiDestri’s Bloody Mary, which also earned a Silver medal in the Wine Tasting Competition.  The first ready-to-drink Bloody Mary product of its kind in the country, LiDestri’s Bloody Mary is a wine-based libation sold with alcohol in it, making it much more desirable and consumer-friendly than the traditional alcohol-free mixes currently available in the U.S.  To help get attendees excited about its newest product that is served in a trendy pouch, LiDestri enlisted in the help of Food Network star Emily Ellyn, who won a Silver medal in the Hoptails Mixology Competition for her “Pineapple Express Hats off to Ham Bloody Mary Brew” made with LiDestri’s Bloody Mary.

“We had no idea how our LiDestri Bloody Mary would be received; it’s been amazingly gratifying,” says Stefani LiDestri, CMO of LiDestri Spirits.  “I give this one to my Dad. It was his idea, I simply brought it to life.”

Finally, in the Spirits Tasting Competition, LiDestri’s Tuttobello, intensely flavorful aperitifs, also saw Gold for its Amaretto featuring a proprietary blend of spices combined with the finest apricot oil and burnt sugar. Additionally, the Limoncello and Amaretto flavors each earned Silver medals.

“We’re thrilled at the reception and feedback we have been getting,” says LiDestri. “The wave we’re riding is such a rush and I feel like we’re just getting started.”
