Wylie & Rum Is Giving Brunch a Floribian Upgrade
Atlanta may take its brunch seriously, but Wylie & Rum has never been about sticking to the usual script. Founded by father-and-son restaurateurs Tony and David Lewis, Wylie & Rum draws on Jamaican, Cuban, European, and other influences for a menu that doesn’t take a traditional approach to Caribbean cooking. Everyone’s favorite neighborhood Caribbean kitchen and rum bar in Reynoldstown brings its “unapologetically inauthentic” approach to weekend brunch, putting jerk spice, rum butter, guava, plantains, and other island flavors to work across some of your favorite brunch staples.
Served Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the menu flips the traditional chicken and waffles, giving it the Wylie & Rum treatment: three jumbo grilled wings tossed in their signature jerk spices atop a warm Dutch waffle, finished with rum butter and spiced syrup. The Cap-Haïtian Special is sure to be another favorite, with its Red Stripe-brined fried chicken breast, seasoned with Scotch bonnet peppers and paired with the same Dutch waffle, rum butter, and fresh seasonal fruit.
Using jerk season as a common link between dishes, providing the right level of spice without compromising the flavor, Wylie & Rum’s Jerk Chicken Breakfast Bowl layers grilled, jerk-marinated chicken with yellow rice, scrambled eggs, black beans, sweet plantains, and avocado, while The Hangover Burger stacks a jerk-spiced brisket and sirloin patty with a fried egg, jerk bacon, Swiss cheese, tobacco onions, and habanero aioli. Shrimp N’ Grits brings Creole flavor into the mix with jumbo shrimp sautéed in Creole sauce over creamy Logan Turnpike grits.
Those looking for some sweetness can dig into the French Toast, made with brioche soaked in a custard with vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and served with spiced syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh fruit. The menu also keeps several Wylie & Rum favorites in play during brunch, including the Miami Cuban, Guava BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich, and Kingston B.L.T.A. with jerk-marinated chicken, jerk bacon, avocado, and habanero aioli.
As you would expect with a restaurant with rum in the name—and nearly eighty on its menu—brunch drinks get their own island treatment. The weekend lineup includes the Rumosa, Cuban Spiked Coffee and W&R Signature Bloody Mary, alongside the classic mimosa.
Wylie & Rum is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, please call 404.941.7877 or visit wylieandrum.com.
